![]() ![]() In addition to providing reasonable, if not terrific, photo-scan quality, the LiDE 60 Twain driver offers several highly welcome features for improving photo scans. The scanner lost white-on-white details in bright areas, and it showed some minor posterization in skin tones on one photo, changing shading suddenly in areas that should change gradually. On our tests, photo-scan quality was good enough for reprinting as snapshots to hand out to friends and family, but not quite good enough for serious amateurs. Like the LiDE 25, the LiDE 60 claims a maximum optical resolution of 1,200 pixels per inch (ppi), which is more than enough for photos or scanning text for OCR. But it also offers a few extras, most notably faster speed, which is enough to make it a much better fit for a home office than the LiDE 25, as well as a good choice for home use. It offers all the same features (and many of the same limitations), including a software bundle limited to a scan-control utility, a low-end photo editor, and a special-edition (read: light-version) optical-character recognition program.
